Hey what's up.. i'm new to this website but pretty skilled with networking :-P I recently came across a small problem I was wondering if anyone could help me out here or lead me in the right direction.. i have a cisco aironet 340 802.11b pcmcia adapter in my toshiba satellite laptop and for some weird reason.. any packet capturing program I try to use.. fails at doing its job.. im guessing i need some sort of drivers or whatnot, but im running the latest WinPCAP too.. these programs worked in the past, and work flawlessly in BSD and Linux, my aironet util says i need some new NDIS drivers but im not sure where to find them, netstumbler doesnt want to pickup APs.. ettercap can't pickup even my router in a host mac address scan, nor does Cain (www.oxid.it) anyone have any ideas ?

    WinPcapn issues in Win32.
The NetMon packet filter associated with WinPCAP has issues with wireless cards which are well documented. Typically say Snort -W (not the capital "W") reveals the interface, but packet captures yeild no packets. This is caused by how Windows handles wireless and certain wireless card drivers.

One workaround is this: If you have a 10/100 ethernet card too, with BOTH interfaces temporarily up, even if on the same network, open the Network control panel apples, highlight both connections using the CNTRL key, then I think right click to get the"bridge interfaces" option.

Once bridged, the a logical "bridge" adapter appears, which is from the drivers of both adapters. This adapter CAN be sniffed from, even when the 10/100 card is not in use, only the wireless is. This should be an accpetable workaround, though a pain in the ass.
